Someone in my group asked a question about what do we think when we hear the phrase “content to convert”. It sounds good. I used to use it and sometimes still use it without thinking about it. But it’s not something I want to use consciously, because it’s overused.

Because too many people started to use it. Because it’s become a cliche, a trend and an easy saying.

And I want to be different. I want to be unique and want to be outstanding.

So when you see/say these phrases “content that converts“, “[x programme/course/whatnot] to sell out your offer” or the infamous “I help xyz to be/have/feel/achieve [X – desired outcome] without [pain] by [the thing you’re selling] withing [timeframe] ” ask yourself this question;

Do these REALLY speak to me?

We see these phrases every single day from hundreds if not thousands of entrepreneurs. Every single day. On social media, networking events, websites and every other place.

And 99% of them are ambiguous. They tell you nothing interesting, intriguing and you just feel they try very hard to sell to you. They tell you nothing that would tickle you to make an enquiry to see and understand what they ‘actually’ do or how they do it.

These phrases are not emotional or intellectual. I mean 99% of them are pure rubbish that does not move you and make you buy. It’s like a mandatory exercise that you need to have an “I help statement”…

And as it looks like a mandatory exercise, you can see that you cannot differentiate between people who use it. Because it’s kinda all the same. Very little variations, nothing unique. All boring and this approach really can hide your talent.

In case you’re someone who uses these or similar phrases you basically use a templatised system. And whilst nothing wrong with templates, you need to understand that if something is and can be templatised then it’s for the masses.

Templates are awesome and can help your ideas and creative juices to flow but they’re nothing more than templates. All of them should be just a starting point and nothing more. Especially if you want to stand out in a world of noise. So, yes, you can add your uniqueness to it, but do you actually add your uniqueness to it? Do you know how to find your uniqueness?

The biggest issue is that people think they’re unique and that’s enough. But they’re wrong.

Let me explain this. If I’m looking for a graphic designer, do I care about their life story? No. I care about what outcome they produce. I care about how much they understand me and my brief. Before they whip me up an artwork. I care about how quickly I’ll get the artwork, what files I’ll receive, the number of revisions they offer. I care about the process they follow, so I know exactly what and when will happen. Of course, I care about the price too. But ultimately, I don’t want them to waste my time.

And a ton of entrepreneurs don’t want their time being wasted. We started our business for different reasons but time freedom is one of them. And it’s a big one. We’re busy and don’t want to do ‘guesswork’ to figure out everything about said graphic designer before we hire them.

So imagine this. We posted that we need a graphic designer and these kinds of comments/nominations/applications come in

“I help female entrepreneurs with fabulous graphics to elevate their business.”

If I want a graphic designer, I’m not closer with this sentence to know if they’d fit or not. Yeah, sure, they’d attach a link to their website or immediately dm me and pitch me (even if I asked them not to message me).

If I want to understand if they’d be a good fit I’d need to check through hundreds of comments, hundreds of websites and portfolios. Yes, usually you get so many applicants from all over the world that it becomes a big job. So I need to sift through everything to be able to narrow down a handful of designers I could work with.

I’m already frustrated because they wasted my time. They did not make it easy for me to understand why I should pick them, check out their portfolio. They promise me to elevate my business but can’t even differentiate themselves, how will they do this to my business?

They could’ve avoided this by giving me more valuable info. By helping me better understand how they work and what results I can expect within a set timeframe. Because they would’ve reduced the number of ‘applicants’ as I only check out those who do not waste my time.

OK, I get it Viki, but how can I do this?” – I hear you asking.

You need to actually stand out. You need to find the uniqueness of you, your offer and your business. If I ask you what do you do, you should be able to tell me with a single sentence.

For example, this is what I do: “I help service providers (coaches and consultants are in this category) to increase their profit and communicate their uniqueness by leveraging buyer psychology.”

And now, let’s compare it to the previous example of a graphic designer; “I help female entrepreneurs with fabulous graphics to elevate their business.”

When you read my one-sentence do you know exactly what I do? No. But you know that I increase your profit, talk about uniqueness and buyer psychology. It sounds interesting and it’s highly likely to strikes some questions. I mentioned 3 things and of those 3 things 2 of them you need immediately (increased profit and uniqueness to stand out).

The third thing is showing you that I actually have something intellectual, scientific in my method. It suggests a method, not just “yeah, let’s run some ads and we can increase your revenue and I can say that I helped someone make 6 figures in a month and not mention that they spent 6 figures on ads too…”

How about the graphic designer’s one-sentence introduction? 

Do you know what they do exactly? No. You know they do graphics they say are fabulous and will elevate your business. Your doubts kick in immediately with the “let me be the judge of those graphics” – they might don’t get the ‘fab’ rating from you…

You might don’t need a lot of graphics, you just need a logo. There’s nothing in their sentence that makes you want to talk to them. There’s nothing emotional or intellectual. It’s boring AF.

So what could the graphic designer say instead of blending in?

For example, they could say; “I help female entrepreneurs to elevate their business and highlight their personality by colour psychology powered graphic design”. Heck yeah, this sounds interesting!

Or they could say; “I help female entrepreneurs to elevate their business with luxurious personality-matched branding packages in 3 days or they pay nothing. How many people would want to work with them if they use this instead of the blend and weak original version?

these are just quick examples to show you a bit of uniqueness and its effect. As it does make sales much easier and quicker.

And this was only one part of the 3 parts uniqueness identifier you need to follow if you’re really want to be outstanding.
