Don’t be fooled by the promise of engagement of this rookie mistake. By using this method you work against the algorithm & lose in the end…

You join a ‘pod’ and ask your friends and family to ‘support you’ by engaging with your posts. If you’re in a ‘pod’ for an extended period or only your friends and family like your post this is what happens;

👉 your pod-friends/family/friends will see all of your posts – real engagement that CONVERTS won’t happen. Ever. Why would it? It’s not real ‘interest’

👉 the algorithm figures out that you do NOT want conversion and you go for ‘entertaining our pals’ – after all those are the people who engage with your content

👉 the algorithm figures out that to make you happy and all those ppl who consume your content, if you’re lucky and have lots of engagement on your posts, will show SIMILAR people than your ‘original’ audience

What does this mean for you?

You will NOT make sales on the back of your posts. You’ll think social media doesn’t work because you’re working against it.
You’re going to moan and will blame people who ‘don’t support you’…

The algorithm only will send your ppl with the same/similar intent as your original audience and they will not give you the same love on your posts… what do you think what will the algorithm think?

You know, the algorithm can target ads based on ‘intention’ and ‘what likely the user would buy’ on the VERY SAME platform, there’s no difference in that. That you artificially tried to manipulate it.

And how do they handle those people?

Exactly. You get less reach.

Do not work against the algorithm. It’s actually quite simple to understand.

But what to do if you don't have literally any engagement on your posts?

Honestly, I don’t think joining pods is a good idea, but if you ‘must’ because you don’t see any other way to get the initial boost, by all means, ask your friends, and family join to a ‘pod’ for a VERY short period.

But first, you need to create good content. So people would genuinely want to engage with it (not just because you asked them).

Second, YOU need to start engaging with people. I’m not saying that you should religiously like and comment on 90 posts/comments as Gary V says. Nope. You just need to engage with a few people to build relationships.

So you engage with people, at first publicly, who you think would be great as possible referral partners, collaborators, or clients. Those conversations are genuine conversations without you trying to push your offer/agenda. Just get to know them and once they’ve seen your name enough times and they recognise you, you can go further and help them/ask them, etc.

And to make your life easier, actually, you can start this before you post, so when you put out something, there’s going to be some natural engagement on your posts. If you ‘give some love’ to other people’s posts and engage with them, the algorithm will show your posts to them, which is the thing you want anyway, bigger reach and engagement. 

Third, once you got the initial boost from your friends and by the reciprocity of your engagement activities, keep going and leave the extra boost.

But don’t worry about engagement on your posts too much if you’re doing the ‘engaging with people bit’, because a huge proportion of your clients will not comment or like your stuff. Like ever. I can safely say that for my high-ticket offers about 95% of my clients never commented or liked my posts prior to working with me. They were lurkers and that’s ok.

How to increase engagement without joining pods

If I need to start from scratch, I use ‘engagement’ posts first. These are the posts that people love to answer. People love to talk about themselves and I give them an opportunity to do so. And by that, I can get to know them and build relationships with them and also hugely boost the algorithm.

And after I use ‘get to know’ posts, where I share certain things that help them understand where I come from/what I stand for or stand against. These kinds of posts are very important because if you want to sell high-ticket offers then you need to make a connection with your prospective client. They need a reason to ‘follow’ you, to read your posts, to agree with you and to buy-in. Because without them buying in, it’s very difficult to sell high-ticket offers. It’s not impossible just difficult.

And after that, I also showcase my knowledge and authority. This is where I use ‘value’ posts followed by ‘promo’ posts. There are a lot of different kinds of value posts. A value post can be when you explain something to your audience; why it’s important, what they duck up if they do something in a certain way, what could they do better, what results they could get if they do what you’re suggesting, etc. 

Another thing could be to explain how your thing works and why certain elements in your offer are irreplaceable. What they duck up if they miss one of those things. How your thing delivers the result they want. And I could go on and on.

Of course, you should link back everything to your offer.

Does it work?

I have posts where I have thousands and thousands of comments. Most of my posts have hundreds of comments. And none of them is from my family or friends.

And yes, it brings in relationships, collaborations and sales. Every single time.

I literally have authority posts where I get multiple high-ticket leads (over ÂŁ10k) messaging and asking me to work with them within 10 minutes of me posting a single post with zero paid ads. And yes, before you ask me, they knew the price before reaching out to me. No, I didn’t know them before. Yes, there are people who pay for high-ticket services even on Facebook. Yes, it happens even if they were seeing my post the first time.
