So many entrepreneurs think that they run an ad & eager people will flood in but the reality is really far from this. What they should do instead?

Before we dive in, let’s see what happens first, when they launch their ads.

Most of the time they

💔 launch a campaign only to see it doesn’t perform
💔 feel like the ad isn’t getting as much engagement as it should
💔 have their ad costs increased but they don’t know why
💔 go against the exact same ads in a very crowded market

Don’t get me wrong, ads can be wonderful for your business.

Why would you risk this if you’re in a situation where you don’t really have the knowledge/money to run ads?

Learn how to get clients without ads, hone your skills and once you know what to say, how to say and when to say it, then invest in ads.

But don’t do it alone, because it’s like building a house after seeing a youtube how-to video. It’s going to be more complex than just putting the bricks on top of each other. There are a lot of resources, courses, memberships and people who could help you with this.

Why do traditional ways need to come back into your lead generation campaigns, if you don’t want to risk your whole business?

It’d be silly to think that you can get as many clients as you want, purely relying on ads. I have worked with several business owners who thought the best way is to get leads by running ads.

They are wrong. Why?

What would you do if, for some reason, you’d need to pay 20 times more for a lead?

What would you do if a wealthy competitor would go after the same target audience, as you, with a massive budget?

I personally led campaigns where the aim of the ads was to bleed out the competitors.

I actually burnt money for a few months, because if competitors wanted to sustain their business, they needed to pay loads of money to run ads.

And I outbid them. On purpose. I was willing to spend much more money on clicks than they’re worth.

What was the result?

A few months down the line they had no business. They could not pay for the ads. My efforts paid off for the business owing to my aggressive campaign management. They took over a massive market share.

What would you do if someone would do the same to you? Would you be able to survive?

Why will ad prices go up?

You want to plan your sales & ad costs, hence you look into your data & check out trends to figure out what to expect.

You check the last couple of years, month-by-month, for how much a click, a lead & a sale cost you. You compare the changes in prices for this month-by-month.

You start to see patterns, you consider seasonality, previous competitor activities & your own campaigns.

And you’ll see that the prices for clicks increase. Even if you

💙 are converting leads to clients better
💜 are crafting better copy for your ads

Why?

Because everyone thinks this is the easiest option to get clients. (Rightly or wrongly, it’s a different question.) You chuck out a few ads & there will be hundreds of people wanting to work with you.

What’s the reality?

You’re placing a bid for clicks. Online ads are actually auctioned. The more you pay, the more you get. Bigger reach, more clicks.

And because it’s ‘easy’, more and more people advertise on these platforms. More people bid for the same things. Hence to see an increase in prices is inevitable.

All platforms are flooded with ads. Do you have a mediocre offer? How/why would anyone spot it if it doesn’t stand out?

Does no one engage? The platform will think your ad is sh!te & they want to show good and relevant stuff to their visitors (so they stay longer), so they’ll show yours less & less. And it costs you more & more.

Do you know what your competitors do to get clients?

It may sound crazy but picture this.

Your competitor runs ads on Fb & Insta. They’re all over it. And they’re good at it. You regularly see their ads day & night.

You see their offers, the way they speak to their ideal clients (if they have one), their landing pages and their methods.

You know what they’re up to.

“So what, Viki? I don’t give a flying pig what they do, that’s their business.”

Cool, that’s their business, and you can learn from them.

They’re not your ‘enemy’. They can be your colleagues, referral partner or God forbid, friends.

What else?

You can see that they’re getting their clients from Fb & Insta ads. If you want to follow their steps & run ads, you need to craft a quite compelling ad to grab your ideal clients’ attention.

Or you can first get clients using different channels, where there’s no competition as everyone knows “the easiest way to get clients is to run a few ads on Facebook”. (Which is actually not true, it requires lots of things to do it right.)

Why should I go on a different channel?

Well, because

How to stand out on the crowded market?

I bet you asked this question yourself already. There are over millions of service providers, coaches, consultants and course creators just in the UK. The competition is fierce.

If you want to stand out, you need to think differently.

Look around & check on your competitors.

How do they get clients? What channels and platforms do they push? Who do they collaborate with? What offers do they have? Where do they advertise?

You’ll see that most of them run ads. Or simply just hope that someone will walk through the door.

After understanding YOUR stuff (offer, dream clients, value & mission) AND your competitors’ stuff AND the channels they get leads/clients from, DIFFERENTIATE yourself.
